He
is a traditionalist of the medium in many ways, strongly
favouring the use of natural light with a minimum amount
of staging or posing to create 'unaffected' results in comfortable
and familiar environments. From an everyday object Ray can
capture it such a way that it becomes a work of art.
Ray has travelled extensively. He has explored the length
and breadth of Australia; dancing in the rain to celebrate
new-year in Cairns, lunching on the Head of the Bight and
being stuck in the whaling station at Albany due to bush
fires.
More recently he has travelled in Europe, primarily as photographic
coordinator on 2 music tours with his son’s school.
His enthusiasm and vibrant approach has resulted in a pictorial
body of work encapsulating not only performances but the
locations and all the behind the scenes play that made the
whole experience for the boys involved one that they will
cherish for ever.
