Hi, and welcome to Beltaine Photographic, owned and operated by Ray Barton.

Our aim: to capture the light that links memories and moment!”

Our paramount value is client satisfaction and customer service

Ray does not have any formal training, just a love and passion of photography that is reflected in his work. He has 25 years experience, specialising in portraiture and travel photography. Ray is constantly asked how his photographs better capture the moment by family members and professionals alike who have photographed the same event. The simple answer is he has a natural ability of capturing the instant of those moments we all share when family and friends are around us.

He is a traditionalist of the medium in many ways, strongly favouring the use of natural light with a minimum amount of staging or posing to create 'unaffected' results in comfortable and familiar environments. From an everyday object Ray can capture it such a way that it becomes a work of art.

Ray has travelled extensively. He has explored the length and breadth of Australia; dancing in the rain to celebrate new-year in Cairns, lunching on the Head of the Bight and being stuck in the whaling station at Albany due to bush fires.

More recently he has travelled in Europe, primarily as photographic coordinator on 2 music tours with his son’s school. His enthusiasm and vibrant approach has resulted in a pictorial body of work encapsulating not only performances but the locations and all the behind the scenes play that made the whole experience for the boys involved one that they will cherish for ever.

The word Beltaine derives from a Celtic festival that commences on May Eve and culminates on May 1st. The Druids would raise the Beltaine fires on hilltops throughout the British Isles on May Eve, for the fires were lit in order to bring the sun’s light down to earth. The Maypole was erected and bright ribbons hung on it, symbolising the uniting of the masculine (the pole) and the feminine (the soft coloured ribbons), a time to fertilize your dreams with action. Ray’s birth date is also May 1st.

Ray’s passion and desire permits him to capture those special moments that will leave you with treasured memories for the rest of your life
